OK no more lame MC Hammer jokes. We promise. Especially considering the man himself touched down in Australia this week to promote Lips: Number One Hits, as well as the latest Twitter feature for the upcoming XBOX Live update.

While some of you have had access to the Live BETA for a few weeks now, testing the waters with the likes of Twitter and Facebook from the comfort of your living room, many of us peasants haven't had the honour of seeing the newest features in action. MC Hammer (real name Stanley Kirk Burrell) is recognised as the fourteenth most influential musician on Twitter, with more than 1.6 million Twitter followers. He is also a regular presenter at Harvard Business School where he speaks about the power of social media.

Talking about why he got onto Twitter, MC Hammer explained how influential such a social network has on communication and interaction.

"I was born in the 60s and in the first ten years of my life, five prominent men of the world were all assassinated," said Hammer. "So I 'Tweetered' that out and said that if you were alive at that time and had that awareness, where were you and what did you feel in '62? And then my whole page filled up."

XBOX Insider Event - Melbourne

The XBOX Insider Event hit Melbourne on Monday after a successful stint in Brisbane. The event was held at the infamous Billboards nightclub on Russell St., with the action kicking off at about 7pm.

A few screens were set up, showcasing the latest XBOX 360 titles, from Forza 3 and FIFA 10, to GTA: Liberty City Stories and Avatar in gorgeous 3D.

The DJ belted out some great sounds, with two of the Pussycat Dolls jumping up on stage to pump the crowd up (to no avail). Ed Hardy did a few fashion parades, and there were also a few door prizes handed out throughout the night.

A great night for those who attended. Booze, pizza, great music, games and MC Hammer belting out U Can't Touch This - what more could you possibly want from an XBOX event? Check out some more pics below.
