DirectX 11 = Next XBOX?

DirectX 10.1 in 48xx generation of graphic cards will be short-lived. Microsoft will be announcing DirectX 11 in about 2 weeks at Gamefest 2008. The Gamefest conference will be held on 22nd-23rd of July, 2008 in Seattle where Microsoft plans to officially launch DirectX 11.

NVidia has announced that it will skip DirectX 10.1 and will directly ship its next generation with DirectX 11 support. DirectX 11 brings Shader Model 5.0 (SM5), which has been closely developed with GPU manufacturers. NVidia has been having the SM5 profile in the Nvidia SDK for sometime now, but didn’t have any new functionality. Also another eagerly awaited feature in DirectX 11 is Tessellation/Displacement, which means that converting displacement map to object mesh is lot more faster and less intensive. There are also hopes that something for general purpose GPU computing (GPGPU) may be added in the DirectX11 API, but nothing is yet known. Multithreading Rendering and Compute Shaders are definitely there in the DirectX 11 API.

DirectX11 should also be a major programming step for game developers because DirectX 11 will be the base for the next-generation XBox console that Microsoft promised to release sometime next year. A lot research has been put into DirectX 11 and next-gen XBox already, and we can expect some release date for Microsoft’s next-gen console during Gamefest 2008.

Firefox 3 problems

Hey all. A few weeks ago i updated to firefox 3, but I have found that on sites where I was kept logged in, I now have to sign in each time I turn off my computer. It's not to do with cookies, and I really have no idea how to fix it.

Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?

Bully problems

I have just bought bully but there is a problem in the gameplay, i cant pick locks. I could the first time but now when i do it, i scroll it to the right and that is fine but when i put it to the left it does not click. all it does is change back to the right arrow and then it clicks back into the first one. I have tried it heaps of times and it doesnt work. Normally i wouldnt care that much but i cant get passed the mission "that bitch".
Does anyone no what is going on?

I can now reveal exclusive inside info about Final Fantasy… VII!

Final Fantasy VII will be getting a “new” version of the classic game from the massive franchise and it will be exclusive (for now at least) to the PLAYSTATION 3. It is unclear whether a new version will be a simple remake or an extension to the original like Crisis Core, and if it will be a Blu-ray release, or on the PSN. Something else which won’t be exclusive is the original FF7 which will be coming to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade by the end of the year.

Both of this info will be officially announced at either Square Enix’s August conference in Japan, or the Tokyo Game Show.

PSLS lists all of our inside info under rumor until it becomes official.

my xbox 360 plays dvd movies but will not play games,,like halo3 or any other game..any idears what is the problem? when i put in a game,it says open tray.......ok,, i just took my xbox 360 apart(its out of warrenty) wow the dvd player is just like a pc dvd player but the connections on the back are different,,i manualy cleaned the laser,,turned it on,,dam.. same problem..where do i get a new hd dvd player from...YES..YES..YES,,I CLEANED THE LASER MANUALY AND ALL THR INSIDE OF ACCUMULATED DUST,,AND YES IT WORKS,,I CAN NOW PLAY ALL GAMES AGAIN..

G'day, just got a 360 today and have some questions:

1- I got rainbow 6 vegas and the game is in widescreen (I have a standard TV), but my console is set to standard - is this just how the game is?

2- I borrowed my friends PAL copy of nhl 2k7 and I have to set my xbox to 60hz - why is it since PAL is 50hz?

3- Can/How do i put mp3s onto the machine and can I intergrate it into games?

4- With regards to RROD am I covered for the 3 years even though I didn't get the shops extended warranty?

5- Is mine HD? The cable has both standard and other av connections?

6- I don't have broadband internet - will there be mandatory software updates to play future games?

These features -- including multiplayer achievements, matchmaking, cross-platform play with the Xbox 360, GFW voice chat, and more -- previously required a GFW Live Gold account. The change is effective immediately and across all GFW titles, both past and future.

In addition to making Games for Windows Live free, Microsoft will also be creating a brand new GFW marketplace this fall to rival the marketplace found on the Xbox 360. As with the Xbox Live Marketplace, GFW's will offer demos, videos, downloadable content, and more. The GFW interface will also receive some tech-friendly changes, lowering requirements for developers looking to make their games GFW compatible

Hi all. I finally picked up an elite ($499 from Harvey Norman as I did not make it yo JBs). Has anyone else noticed it is more on the side of dark grey when compared to the blackness of the controller.

The pictures I see on the net have the console the same colour as the controller.

ABSOLUTLY! My father-in-law owns a 16:9 LG DLP Rear-Projection and even after the bulb is long past its due time to be replaced, it still looks great. The best thing about a rear-projector, is it doesn't matter how close you are to it, it doesnt distort like a lcd or plasma TV. So we're like 3 metres from a 52" screen and it looks amazing. Sure it's not quite as bright or crisp as an Lcd or Plasma, but its very close thanks to the DLP technology which also gives it the same viewing angle. The new feature will let users install all of the game content directly onto the hard drive to improve game load times. Microsoft reports that it has seen a 30 percent improvement in load times in internal testing. As an interesting data point, Microsoft went out of its way to tell a group of reporters that the full Devil May Cry 4 hard disk installation took roughly 10 minutes on the Xbox 360. The installation took twice as long when we conducted our own installation tests on the PlayStation 3. Another side benefit of having games installed on the hard disk is reduced noise, since the optical disc no longer needs to spin up. However, you will still need to have the game disc in your optical drive while you're playing it, presumably as a piracy check.
